The Search

I have been looking for a Handtub to restore for several years.  It had to meet several requirements:
  • Smaller size: My garage space is filling up plus I needed to be able to take it to shows and events without a large investment in other vehicles, or a large crew to load, unload, and pull it.
  •  Poor condition:  I enjoy the restoration part as much , or more so, than the collecting part.  I needed one that was in poor enough condition that restoration, in lieu of preservation, was appropriate.
  • Complete:  Since original parts are vitually impossible to find, most or all of the original parts, especially the iron and brass castings and forgings needed to be present.  Not that I can't or haven't fabricated parts from scratch for my other projects, but I need at least a sample.  I can handle the woodworking pretty competently as long as I have enough of the original parts for patterns.
  • Not a museum piece:  I want to take this to parades, shows, and even pump it.  I didn't want one that should be in a museum.
  • Cost: Of course!
  • Location:  So I can compromise on this one.  Most handtubs are on the East Coast.
